ABOUT TEAM TAEKWONDO

Team Taekwondo was created in the winter of 2005. Two years after passing his 4th Dan, Phillip Payne decided that the time was right to set up his own Taekwondo club. He had been active in Taekwondo since 1990 and had been teaching classes under the Quest Taekwondo name since 1996.

A list of twenty possible club names was drawn up from suggestions from students and instructors. A vote was then taken to find the most popular. Team Taekwondo emerged as a firm favourite and everyone agreed that this name would best reflect the atmosphere of the club.

Our classes have something for everyone and we cater for beginners and advance students of all ages. We cover all aspects of Taekwondo and a typical class will start off with a warm up and stretch before moving on to the core Taekwondo components such as basics, pad work, patterns, sparring and self defence. For more information about Taekwondo, take a look at the ‘’Taekwondo’ page. If you want to find out where we teach, you can find this information on the ‘Venues’ page.

The Team Taekwondo club was originally a Quest Taekwondo club. This changed in 2006 and we are now full members of the BTCB, the National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK. This affiliation provides the following benefits to our club:-

* Access to Black Belt gradings and Kukkiwon registration (Recognised all over the world)
* Insurance and registration with the National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK
* Access to high quality seminars with English and Korean Masters
* Access to competitions all over the world
* Access to training sessions with British Team members

Team Taekwondo practices Olympic style Taekwondo. This is also some times called Kukkiwon (Taekwondo headquarters in South Korea) or WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) Taekwondo. Team Taekwondo is the only Olympic style club in the Halifax area that offers both a Kukkiwon certification program and registration with the National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK. A Kukkiwon certificate is the ultimate grade recognition for Black Belts. Not only is the certificate recognised world wide, it also gives the holder access to international training courses and the Great British team. If you dream of participating in the Olympics, a Kukkiwon certificate is a must!

Phillip Payne is the chief instructor of Team Taekwondo and has been practicing Taekwondo for around 18 years. He holds a Black Belt 4th Dan in Taekwondo, a Black Belt 1st Dan in Ju Jitsu and is also an active member of the Amateur Thai Boxing Association.

When you or your children train with Team Taekwondo you can rest assured that you are in good hands. All club instructors have attended relevant instructors, first aid and child protection courses. They also have a valid Criminal Records Bureau certificate and are fully insured with the National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK. For more information about our instructors, take a look at the ‘Instructors’ page.

In the last twelve months our club has gone from strength to strength. In 2007 we had both players and officials represent the club at the British National Taekwondo Championships, at which two Team Taekwondo players became British Champions. 2007 was also the first year we have players participate in an international competition. The team arrived back to the UK from Germany with a silver medal and lots of valuable experience.

In the winter of 2007 the club expanded and added an extra two venues and this September we will add another two. Team Taekwondo now has classes six days a week and and in 2009 we hope to add more venues to our list. This will help us introduce the benefits of Taekwondo to more people.
