Kieran and Chris take part in The Zone Fight Night hosted by Ultimate TKD

On night Saturday Chris Cocker and Kieran Young took part in the first Zone Fight Night at the Metrodome in Barnsley. The night had been arranged by Ultimate Taekwondo with eighteen fights scheduled for the night.

Kieran was up first against his old nemesis Jamie Abley from the Chungdokwan. Jamie had beaten Kieran twice before but each time they meet the scores got closer and closer. It was an exciting fight with Kieran taking an early lead in the first round. Both players were landing good kicks with Kieran scoring with quite a few back kicks. Going in to the final round Kieran was still up on points. Jamie pulled the score back and in the last twenty seconds of the third round, Kieran threw a counter back kick and stepped out of the ring. The referee stopped the match warned Kieran which took him to one point down. Unfortunately with only five seconds of the match left, there was no time to get the point back. Kieran will now have to wait until the Chungdokwan 1-1 in August to get his first win against Jamie.

Chris was scheduled to take part in fight number fourteen. Having fought against Ashley Nicholas (Lightning) before and lost by a point, he was keen to pickup a win. In the first round Chris scored two points with one of his trademark reverse turning kicks only to have Ashley do the same to him in the second round. Both players were exchanging turning kicks through most of the fight. During the second round Chris threw an axe kick that skimmed Ashley’s face. As Chris once again lost by a single point, had this kick had scored, Chris could have chalked up his first win against Ashley.

Chris and Kieran were not the only members of Team Taekwondo to participate in The Zone. Amy was one of only two female referees selected to official on the night.

Both players performed well and will fight once more before the Nationals in September. Even though this is only the second year we have attended the British Nationals, we will be submit out biggest team yet.
